Taepithiggi Batavia Planning and Development – Stage 1

Project summary

The Taepithiggi Batavia Clan Group Aboriginal Corporation (TBCAC), formed following the Old Mapoon Aboriginal Corporation’s establishment in 2013, represents the custodians of country stretching from the Wenlock and Ducie rivers, Cape York.

This new group aims to develop a master plan for economic development, that includes at lease one proposal for an eco-tourism facility in the Wenlock catchment.

The clan group is keen to get back out on country and begin work on the planning and development of corporation for management of land and sea country. This project includes providing support to set up the office at Mapoon;  an on-country heritage and land survey; and establish and cultural and ecological monitoring system using mobile spatial monitoring tools.

The office infrastructure includes basic office equipment, such as furniture, telephone, broadband connection and iPads.

The group will develop an on-country monitoring system and communicate their establishment and goals to organisations and government agencies. TBCAC custodians and Elders, will  conduct an on-country field trip to map the boundary of their country and document information on cultural, economic and ecologically valuable sites.

The anticipated project outcomes include improvement to NRM and business planning for the Corporation and Taepithiggi Batavia country.
