Indigenous Fire Workshop 2015

Project summary

The Fire Workshop was held at Mary Valley Station on Awu-Laya country on the 12th to the 16th of June 2015.  The workshop over all was a huge success and achieved the goals it was set out to do, in bringing communities together Australia wide to learn and share traditional burning techniques on Cape York.  This was the seventh workshop and is proving to get bigger and involve more people across the country in delivering one of the most successful national Indigenous teaching workshops.

The workshop brings many communities and other agencies together to help teach them about fire and how they can progress the methodologies in their own regions to better manage their country with fire.  Over the past ten years this has proven successful and has instigated a lot of people in getting their fire projects happening and attracts more people to the fire workshop every year.

This year we had participants from Cape York, Gulf, Southern Queensland, New South Whales, Victoria, Northern Territory, Tasmania, and California US.
