Indigenous Fire Workshop 2014

This project partnered with Mulong Pty Ltd to conduct a fire management workshop on Steve Irwin Wildlife Sanctuary (or other suitable location) over five days in July 2014. The project built on Indigenous fire knowledge into land management on Cape York and beyond. The project also supported the establishment of a steering committee for Indigenous fire knowledge holders.

This project involved:

• Developing promotional materials working with Cape York NRM staff and logistics process for people to participate in the workshop;
• Significant engagement with Traditional Owners and other stakeholders to plan the workshop, get approval for burning on country and actively involve traditional owners;
• Planning and hiring equipment, vehicles and skilled workers to support the workshop over the five-day period;
• Recording the fire workshop and producing a high-definition video.
