EM mapping and soil education program to improve soil mapping suitability

Project summary

This project was developed for the colection of Electromagnetic mapping, elevation data on 300 hectares of land in the Cape York Region that had been designated for high intensity agriculural use.

Most of the soils in the region which are unsuitable for agricultural use are mapped at 1:900,000 however this was deemed to be an unsuitable scale for assessments of the landform, slope, and variation due to soil type (erodibility, iniltration rates, soil water holding capacity and so on). For this reason areas that were deemed to be potentially suitable for intensive agricultural development were mapped in 1:25,000 scale to allow analysis to be made regarding the aformentioned assessments.
