The turtle conservation project aimed to increase activities that contribute to identifying and implementing actions which reduce threats currently impacting on the breeding success of marine turtles (including the Flatback, Hawksbill, Green and Olive Ridley turtles). Sufficient Program Communication, Information and Knowledge exchange was ensured and undertaken to ensure relevant cape york communities were supported with contemporary technical information about turtle nesting and conservation management. The project also aimed to support already operating programs that aimed to reduce feral pig and wild dog predation on marine turtle nests in western coastal Cape York and that also ensured the implementation of appropriate management strategies to eliminate predation of turtle nests by pest animals.
