Orionne Albert-Mitchell

Ori joined the Cape York NRM in November 2021 as the biodiversity project officer, based in Cooktown.

Ori was born and raised in the Rossville to Bloomfield regions of Far North QLD, sparking her deep appreciation for the natural world. She completed her entire schooling by distance education, achieved a degree in Zoology and Ecology from JCU Cairns and a diploma of permaculture from TAFE NSW.

Prior to working for Cape York NRM, she worked for three years in Biosecurity within the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Cairns; conducted multiple surveys and workshops focusing on the fungi of North QLD; and volunteered in various organisations with festivals, surveys and clean-ups.

Ori loves art, travel and gardening. She is very excited to be working back on Cape York with the biodiversity bright spots projects improving community capacity to protect littoral rainforests, Cassowaries and Ant Plants.
