Changemaker workshop empowers individuals to transform communities

Cape York Natural Resource Management will be hosting a Changemaker Workshop, a two-day leadership development workshop designed for individuals who want to play a more active role in Cape York communities and contribute to positive change.

The workshop, facilitated by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) under the Future Drought Fund’s Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative, aims to foster self-awareness, community engagement, resilience, leadership skills, and the ability to create positive change while considering diverse perspectives and community well-being.

It is open to individuals who have a strong desire to drive meaningful change within their community, an interest in finding innovative solutions for complex challenges, a commitment to exploring new approaches for building a thriving community, and an interest in driving local action to prepare for drought effectively.

“The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation has delivered over 126 leadership programs in the last 30 years, dedicated to building thriving rural, regional and remote communities. Just over the past three years, we have run leadership programs in over 25 communities across the country building local leadership capacity and networks to bring new understanding, perspective and skills to move forward,” ARLF Chief Executive Matt Linnegar said.

“This Changemaker Workshop empowers individuals who wish to make a real difference. We believe that through collaboration and purposeful engagement, positive change is not only possible but also achievable.”

The Changemaker Workshop is part of the $29.6 million Australian Government Future Drought Fund supported Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative. This Initiative combines and builds on previous programs to deliver tailored support in getting agriculture-dependent communities across rural, regional and remote Australia more prepared and resilient to the impacts of drought and changing climate.

“We are proud to work with the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, leveraging their expertise and networks that span remote, rural, and regional Australia. Together, we are committed to empowering our community and facilitating positive changes that make a lasting impact,” Cape York Sustainable Industries Officer Kathrina Southwell said.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th September in Cooktown at the Lions Hall and applications close on 15th September.
