Cape York Natural Resource Management’s Cooktown office is up and moving into new premises this month … a whole 50 metres away.
It is leaving the historic Bank building and moving into the former Cooktown Cultural and Aboriginal Tours across the road after several months of refitting and rejuvenating the premises.
South Cape York Catchments will also be moving across with us, and will be allocated their own offices in the building.
Cape York NRM Business Support Manager Maree Willis said the new office will be a much more identifiable building, with new signage, facilities and landscaping at the rear of the office at 113 Charlotte Street.
“Our tenure at the old Bank has ended, as new plans are afoot for that historic building,” she said. “It’s a beautiful site and it was great to be tennants there, but we are very excited to have this new office, which will be much more user friendly for our staff and for visitors. We want it to become a hub for the community.”
Cape York NRM has had offices in Cooktown for seven years and is the base for project officers as they travel around the Cape working with land managers to improve waterways, weed control, fire management and protection of threatened species.
“This move ensures our commitment to the region continues to grow and prosper in terms of on-the-ground projects and staff numbers in this important landcare sector,” Maree said.
The new premises will be open from August 30.
