Tips on grant writing

Preparation is the key to good grant writing and it’s much more than filling out the application.

That was the message in the grant writing workshop held in Cooktown on June 14.

About 15 people attended the workshop, which was delivered by Wombat Creative’s Samantha Morris.

Participants learned the nitty gritty of reading and interpreting an application, designing a good project plan and budget and then pulling everything together. They also drafted their own elevator pitch for a project idea for their organisations.

“Samantha was excellent, and fielded so many questions about grant writing and how to better communicate the importance of the Cape York region, its people and its natural values,” Sustainable Industries and Water Quality Manager, Michael Goddard said.

“It was a great way to learn how to be specific, grab the attention of a grant assessor and be clear and concise on your message.”

The workshop was coordinated by Cape York NRM through funding from the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, Traditional Owner Water Quality and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Enhanced Extension Coordination
