Meet Tahna Jackson – Regional Recovery Officer for North Queensland

Tahna Jackson is a livestock farmer from the Dimbulah region with over 20 years’ experience working in the Agriculture sector, supporting Australian Government programs through her work at AgForce Queensland, the Rural Financial Counselling Service and now the National Drought and Flood Agency.

Tahna has a genuine understanding of the many and varied challenges faced by people living in rural and regional communities and is well known in North Queensland, having previously lived and worked in Longreach, Boulia and McKinlay Shires.

As a Regional Recovery Officer, Tahna will play a crucial role in connecting communities with the Australian Government’s response to drought and flood.

The National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency is committed to putting ‘boots on the ground’ and is currently in the process of employing 15 Regional Recovery Officers (RROs) to work directly with rural communities across Australia.

The Regional Recovery Officers will work closely with other Australian Government agencies, such as the Rural Financial Counselling Service, Regional Investment Corporation and Services Australia to assist people impacted by flood and drought.

This will ensure farmers and businesses in affected areas are aware of Australian Government drought initiatives and how to access them, receive the correct information and advice to suite their individual needs, and provide local feedback for government about how to better prepare for and withstand future challenges. The officers will now also be providing advice on the COVID-19 assistance measures that are available for all rural and regional communities.

RROs are an important conduit between people in our regions and the Australian Government and Tahna will be a voice from the region straight back to the Coordinator General and his team.

Tahna can be contacted on 0437 368 608 or email RRONorthQLD@pmc.gov.au.
