Weed Habitat 

• Native to tropical America, Mossman river grass is now found throughout tropical Australia. Grows in disturbed areas such as school grounds, camping grounds, homesteads, parks, roadsides, on or near coastal sand dunes, along creeks and swamp edges.
• Burrs adhere to clothing and animals.

Description 

• An erect annual grass to 20-50 cm high, forming loose tufts.
• Stems often root at lower nodes.
• Leaves pale green, flat, stiff, 5-25 cm long and 3-12 mm wide, tapering towards the tip.
• ‘Seeds’ are burrs arranged in numerous spike-like heads, up to 10 cm long, narrow, pale brown. Each burr is about 4 mm across and consists of a ring of stout, broad, shiny bristles, joined together at the base. Falls readily when ripe.
