Irrigation training for Sustainable Industries Officer

Over five days in early December, participants from NQ Dry Tropics, Farmacist, the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry, AgroTech Solutions, local council bodies, and Cape York Natural Resource Management (Cape York NRM) attended a training session in the Burdekin region of Home Hill as part of their Certificate III in Irrigation Training through Irrigation Australia.

Newly employed Cape York NRM Sustainable Industries Officer Abbey Ernst attended the course which provided insight into the fundamental principles of irrigation.

Participants also attended a variety of sites to observe irrigation methods in practice.

Abbey said that she is looking forward to utilising her new learnings and skillsets in her work with landholders in the Cape York region.

“With developed understanding, practice and cooperation, we aim to achieve improved economic and environmental outcomes through efficient irrigation and resource utilisation” Abbey said.
