Pormpuraaw Land and Sea Rangers
The Pormpuraaw Land and Sea Management Program operates as part of the Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council (PASC), employing a very dedicated team of rangers.
The PASC act as Trustee on behalf of Thaayorre and Mungkan Traditional Owners, for the Pormpuraaw Deed of Grant in Trust (DOGIT) area, covering 4,661 sqkm (466,198 hectares) of Pormpuraaw lands, seas and inland waterways.
The Land and Sea Rangers play an important and diverse role in the community, delivering land and sea and cultural and natural resource management.
The rangers' activities include: declared pest weed mapping and weed control, feral animal control, marine debris removal, tourism and visitor management, support of the Junior Ranger program, and monitoring and protecting nesting marine turtles.
The Pormpuraaw Land and Sea Rangers are one of the founding member groups that make up the Western Cape Turtle Threat Abatement Alliance, playing a key role in the reduction of threats to vulnerable and endangered marine turtles nesting on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula.

Turtle monitoring wraps up for another year
