About this role

Cape York Natural Resource Management (Cape York NRM) is a not-for-profit organisation that works to encourage voluntary adoption of improved natural resource management across all land tenures and land uses on Cape York. We focus on achieving positive outcomes for the people of Cape York through the coordination and delivery of high-quality programs that meet the standards of both government and commercial clients.

Cape York NRM is a member of the North Queensland NRM Alliance (the Alliance) with Terrain NRM and Northern Gulf Resource Management Group. The Alliance aims to deliver more effective NRM services through sharing resources, delivering cross-regional projects and collectively operates across all of Far North Qld.

The Fire Coordinator position is responsible for facilitating effective engagement and participation of Cape York people in improved fire management. The position is responsible for building and maintaining networks and partnerships on Cape York and will work across tenures and stakeholders to support land managers to improve fire management for conservation and production outcomes.

This position is accountable to the Biodiversity and Fire Program Manager and works as part of a multidisciplinary team across the organisation. The position will focus on improving governance and coordination of cross-regional fire management at the local and regional scales that are central to improving the delivery of fire management across Cape York and identifying obstacles and opportunities for improvement. This includes coordinating the delivery of fire-related components of funded programs, the development of fire management cluster groups and relevant grazing land management actions, supporting the development of property plans, and supporting multiple-faceted fire management priorities (such as conservation, carbon credits and cultural purposes).
