The Eastern Cape York Water Quality Improvement Plan aims to improve the quality of water entering the Great Barrier Reef lagoon from catchments on the east coast of the Cape York Peninsula. These goals are to be achieved through the development of improved land management strategies that ensure sediment, nutrients from agriculture, and pollutants do not make their way into waterways and wetlands along the East Coast.

The Eastern Water Quality Improvement Plan was funded by the Australian Government in order to help achieve the targets set in the Reef 2050 Long Term Sustainability Plan by informing implementation and investment priorities on the Cape.

Without the effective implementation of sutainable land use practices and waterquality management planning, the Great Barrier Reef will cease to exist as a natural marvel for future generations.
