Natural Resource Investment Program: Regional support for the paddock to reef program
The Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting Program (Paddock to Reef program) is a collaboration involving the Australian and Queensland Governments, industry, regional natural resource management bodies and research organisations and provides the principal framework for evaluating and reporting progress towards the Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan targets. The program is a world-leading example of an integrated monitoring, modelling and reporting program that links many on-ground practice changes by farmers to measurable improvements in water quality flowing to the GBR. The program collects and integrates data and information on land management practices, catchment water quality and the health of the Reef. It monitors and models the impact management change is having on water quality improvement at a number of scales: paddock, catchment and marine. The Cape York Paddock to Reef (CY P2R) program will support the Reef-wide Paddock to Reef the project Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting Program, thus delivering on a number of State Investment Priorities. The CY P2R program will work with the OGBR, P2R GBR-wide Regional Coordinator, QDAF, local industry and other NRM Regions to deliver an agreed set of activities and ensure a consistent approach is employed. The program will collect and integrate regional data and information on land management practices focusing on fertiliser and pesticide use. Information, results and products derived from the P2R program will be disseminated to regional stakeholders and used to prioritise future investment in reef related activities. The CY P2R program links very closely with a number of on-ground reef programs including Reef Trust and industry BMP programs.
