Traditional Owners and students rehabilitating waterways on Country 2018

This project extends the engagement with landholders and rangers undertaken by SCYC in 2016/2017 by contuning to provide the necessary tools and skills to manage critical threats to wetlands and riparian corridors in our region. This project will also engage “at risk” indigenous students, providing them with Cultural and Environmental skills. They will experience what it is like to work as a Ranger and then use these skills to improve learning outcomes in the classroom. This project will allow the benefits obtained from previous investments to be enhanced and maintained into the future
Weeds, feral animals and fire in and around our aquatic ecosystems are a major threat to biodiversity. This project will address these critical threats across 3 key environmental areas; the upper Normanby Wetlands in the Northern Wet Tropics Word Heritage Area at the headwaters of Rinyirru NP (Salvinia) 2 Normanby Lagoons (feral pigs and cattle) and the Trevethan Creek wildlife corridor adjacent to the WTWHA (Gamba Grass)
