Reef Plan is a joint commitment of the Australian and Queensland governments. The plan is a collaborative program of coordinated projects and partnerships designed to improve the quality of water in the Great Barrier Reef. It identifies actions that will help minimise the risk to the reef from a decline in the quality of water entering the reef from adjacent catchments, including improving land management in reef catchments to reduce non-point source pollution. Reef Plan sets ambitious but achievable targets for improved water quality and land management practices, and identifies actions to improve the quality of water entering the reef. The plan is a significant part of the overall strategy of both governments to protect and preserve the reef. It incorporates and supports the actions of industry, community groups and government that impact on reef health and links with a number of other legislative and planning initiatives.
